Planting What I Want to Grow
Growth takes time—sometimes longer than we expect. But one truth is constant: if I don’t plant the seed, nothing will grow. And even when the seed is in the ground, it needs consistent care. Without watering, weeding, and feeding it, it won’t survive.
Recovery as a Garden
This seed is my recovery. For years, I’ve planted it again and again, but I didn’t always give it what it needed to flourish. I showed up at times, but not consistently enough to help the roots take hold.
The Weight of Starts and Stops
My journey has carried its share of guilt, shame, self-blame, regret, and frustration. I’ve had many beginnings followed by setbacks. Still, I know the truth: giving up would only lead to misery. And every attempt—no matter how short-lived—has taught me something. I’ve gained wisdom, support, and insight from the people around me. And between those setbacks, I didn’t pick up a drink. That alone is something to be grateful for.
Choosing Determination Over Defeat
What keeps me going is determination and resilience. I don’t have the luxury of giving up. Hope is what sustains me, and I believe that if I keep tending to this seed, it will one day grow into something strong and steady.
A Reminder to Myself
So I remind myself:
- Never give up.
- Keep planting the seed.
- Stop beating yourself up.
Guilt and shame don’t help anything grow. They only keep me stuck. Instead, I’m choosing to hold my head high, take one positive step at a time, and keep moving toward a healthier future.
